Draconian Government Bonds in India for Government Medical Super Specialty Seats: 10 years or Rs 2 crore!

In already frustrating life of doctors working hard to get super specialty seats, TN government added fuel to the fire by adding a draconian bond clause. Service bond of 10 years or 2 crores. This was mainly done thinking outside state people will not opt and the seats will come to the state.

There is so much disparity in the medical  education bonds and stipends across states, that it is getting outrightly unjust for doctors from bond free states to pursue a course in states with a bond. This is creating virtual boundaries, where states like Tamil Nadu are locking their seats for local candidates.

The general life of doctors in these states is also getting degraded day by day, with lowest in country stipend, struggles with the bond, allocation in non specialty general posts while serving government bonds and loss of prime years of one's career in bond service.

Despite so many years of bond clause for taking government hospitals seats, there is very little benefit in terms of proper teaching, unlimited work hours, shitty hostel facilities, non availability of latest investigation and treatment protocols and around 4-5 lakhs of fees even for joining a supposedly free seat. This coupled with a 10 years of service in a district hospital with nil facilities will just make doctors who will be mediocre and never ready to provide a global standard of healthcare in India.

As against this, a doctor educated in a private medical college will have a clear edge in terms of latest technology, good learning facilities, time to settle and establish in a better rewarding career while having a good quality of life.

A recent Maharashtra government’s rule to disqualify postgraduate medical aspirants who have not completed the one-year rural service is also biased towards non-domiciles and students from private and deemed medical colleges, who don’t have to comply to a rural stint. By this rule, current students are being compelled to suffer as far as academics is concerned, when same 1 year bond period can be smoothly performed even at a later stage without risking the future prospects. This will jeopardize the selection prospects and the career of young deserving doctors who can provide world class medical care if allowed to train for super specialty. It is high time such draconian bond clauses should be opposed by medical fraternity all over India with all the vigour!
